In South Africa, families who foster orphans and other vulnerable children are supported by the State through a monthly Foster Care Grant. This grant makes a huge difference to the families that Thandanani works with. Without this grant many families would not be able to provide for the basic needs of the children they have taken in. Consequently, one of the first and most important ways in which Thandanani supports indigent families caring for orphans and other vulnerable children is to assist them to secure the State grants for which they qualify. This involves a formal assessment by our Social Workers of the family’s circumstances and their suitability as a foster family; the drafting and submission of a professional Foster Care Placement Report; and a court appearance by the family before the children can be formally placed in their care. By purchasing a full Foster Care assessment & placement you ensure that families receive the grants for which they qualify and so have a basic income to support the children in their care.
